A New "God"? - Caring Physician - Plastic Surgeon?
In "A Course in Weight Loss", women are introduced to the - "Divine Physician" - a Loving "God" who wants to help the body of women be slim, healthy, beautiful, and young-looking. Women are encouraged to ask Him for a miraculous body transformation, which He, as -The Loving Creator/God- is not only capable of doing, but wants to!
This new description of "God" reminds me of the actor Chad Everett, who played -Dr. Joe Gannon, M.D. in the 1970s "Medical Center" TV series. To imagine "God" being like a young, handsome Chad Everett, wanting to help women be slim, young, and beautiful - is a welcome change in image - from the angry "Old God" of Michelangelo's painting in the Sistene Chapel and the wrathful "Old God" associated with Moses. However, in the Bible, Jesus was referred to as the "Physician", described as a young man in his early 30s, and women were the majority of his followers.

Women worldwide, raised in traditional religions, have rejected the traditional description of "God", given by religious leaders, as being harsh, condemning his daughter Eve, and all of her descendants, to grow old. Women could -not- ask that "God" to help restore their body to being slim and young, again!

"A Course in Weight Loss" by Marianne Williamson
http://marianne.com/

Marianne: "The Divine Physician will cut away from you all that you do not want. He will remove the weightiness from your heart, and you will know the lightness you yearn for. Cleanse your heart for this, just as you would cleanse your body before going into physical surgery. Take several deep breaths, inhaling forgiveness and love and exhaling resentment and fear as best you can. Be willing to open yourself up to a miraculous operation.
He has heard every cry you ever cried out to Him, in the depths of your sorrow and despair. He has listened to every prayer you have prayed, and He has watched every effort you have made to be free. Now, with this surgery of your soul, He reprograms your mind and cuts out darkness at its roots. Shame...cut away. Judgment and blame...cut away. Grief...cut away. Fear and burdens...cut away. Self-reference...cut away. Isolation...cut away. Obsession... cut away. Anger...cut away. Craving...cut away.
In the space of this miraculous process, in the silence of this holy operation, allow yourself to truly experience the movement of the -Divine Physician's- hand. He removes flesh from your body by removing pain from your heart. This operation is as real as you choose it to be. Your body is healed and your mind is restored. Your miracle has come."

Oprah Show - May 12, 2010
http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Geneen-Roth-Talks-About-Women-Food-and-God
"Lots of people understand why women and food are mentioned in the title of Geneen's book, but why God? Geneen says she isn't talking about God in the religious sense. Instead, she's talking about what she calls the source. "We each have this longing—we've had moments of awe and wonder in our lives. A lot of us don't call that God, but we know that something is possible for every one of us besides our daily lives, the daily grind. The way we get caught with errands and emails and taking care of other people. We feel that this possibility exists," Geneen says. "I'm talking about wonder and mystery and possibility ... or the feeling you have in nature. The feeling that everything is possible."
Oprah says that in reading Women, Food, and God, she has learned that a woman's relationship with food is directly related to how close she is to the source. "That's really what this book is about," she says. "The issue isn't really the food. It is about your disconnection from -that which is real- which we call God."
Geneen: "...only kindness makes sense...love didn't abandon you after all...God has been here all along in each moment of kindness, She is you."

"I’ve seen "Women, Food, and God" more times at my library (being checked out, on the hold shelf, and the library bought two more copies) since the book was released. We must be on some cosmic wavelength together."
Heavenly Mother? - In the video clip on Geneen's website http://geneenroth.com/women_food_and_god.php the images are of a mother - loving, comforting, there to caringly listen to every hurt, holding her child until the pain goes away. For many women worldwide, it is easier to ask help from a Divine Mother person. Historically, there were many Jews, including Jesus and his disciples, who did -not- worship the "God" of Moses. Instead, they prayed to the Loving *Forever Young* Heavenly Parents of Adam and Eve, that were simply called "Our Father" and "Our Mother" the Holy Spirit.
